The Family’s New Favourite Haunt

To be exact, this is the dad’s new favourite dining place. For the longest time, he had been trying to get the family to this old-fashioned zichar-styled Chinese seafood restaurant located at the Ang Mo Kio Industrial Park along Ang Mo Kio Ave 10. Apparently the parents themselves had been to this huge non air-conditioned restaurant many moons back and were impressed with the big bosses clientele who in spite of driving big cars (by my parents’ standard, big cars are the big luxury cars), decided to sweat it out at this eating place. According to them, the food is cheap and good.

So two weekends ago, H and I went out for dinner with them. Without a place in mind, we ended up at this seafood restaurant in the heartlands. With a capacity easily able to rival some big hotel ballrooms, it was almost full on the Sunday evening. Naturally we had to wait more than 30 minutes for our food but we were cool with it.

Had a total of 6 dishes that evening including a chilli crab for the mum and I and herbal prawns. Yet the bill only came up to S$120. It was really cheap and good.

The next Sunday (which was the Sunday past), the dad initiated a dinner gathering for the family (including lil sis and her fiance). That was a first in years because he is usually not the one to do such things. But we knew why he wanted to return to the same restaurant we just visited the week before –  he wanted to try the ‘Buddha Jumps over the Wall’ dish but we told him with just the 4 of us, we would not be able to finish all the dishes. We were right. With 6 of us at dinner, we had no reason to stop him from ordering that particular dish. The dad can be such a kid sometimes. 😆

I really loved the steamed fish head and chilli crabs; the former was fresh and not overly-done while the latter was just spicy enough for my liking. And all 7 dishes (some, very expensive dishes) for merely S$244. Have a good mind to recommend some good friends to try this place out for our coming bi-monthly dinner gathering.
